"Winston" by Bound Stems

In 2008, the band Bound Stems came out with their final album, The Family Afloat. Thanks to The A.V. Club I found out about this album, and man is it incredible. I haven't heard it in a while, but it's still amazing. Every song is great, but "Winston", about Winston Churchill, is a fucking knockout. There are few songs better than this somber, yet hopeful piece. Sure it ends with the lyric "Oh we're in trouble now". But with music this good it's impossible not to be hopeful.

Fringe's "Brown Betty"

Any episode that involves Walter getting high and telling a heartbreaking story, Lance Reddick being a general badass (just kidding, that's every episode. Someone needs to give this man a starring role in a show. Now.), a couple musical numbers, a great story within story and a spot-on noir feel is a great episode of Fringe. Oh, and singing corpses. Yeah, you read that right (see video below). (Sidenote: How the FUCK did John Noble get shafted from the Emmys this year? He is, consistently, hilarious and heartbreaking, but never overdoes either aspect. Easily one of the best performances on TV, I'd actually go as far as to say the best one.)

"Born to Run" - Jimmy Fallon, Glee, Etc.

Last night I did not watch the Emmys because it was my first night at college. As usual some good things won (Modern Family, Mad Men, Jane Lynch) some good things lost (Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, Terry O'Quinn) and nothing about my opinions of the shows or people were changed. However, this opening number featuring some Glee cast members, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Hamm and many more, was awesome.

Nicki Minaj's "Your Love"

Any song that is catchy, references Die Hard, calls a man the "illest" and features the rhyme "candy store" and "todd-lor" is a winner. An awesome winner. And Nicki Minaj's presence (heard before in the best verse in "Bedrock") don't hurt much either.

The Walking Dead: TV Show Trailer

I'm on the second book of The Walking Dead comic book series, and it's damn good. The characters are well drawn (both literally and figuratively), the plot's at least mostly original and the zombies are awesome looking. The new show on AMC (certified awesome channel), debuting Oct. 31st, looks like it will follow the comic's lead in taking common zombie tropes and, by expanding them, adding more pathos and unique themes and ideas. Also, a lot of awesome zombie killing.

Human Giant: An Intro to Awesome

So the point of this blog is to bring you things that are good, great or awesome. Human Giant, perhaps my favorite sketch comedy show, is undeniably awesome. The first season DVD is something I should own, and the second season DVD is something that should exist. My personal favorite sketches include "Space Lords: Episode 2", "Corn Chowder" and the one below, "Doritos Jingle". Pts. 1 & 2 are great, but the actual commercial in Pt. 2 (featuring Kristen Schaal!) is perhaps a masterpiece.
Anyhow, I will post more Human Giant in the future, as it is one of the awesomest things ever (how could something starring Aziz Ansari, Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer not be?). Until then though, enjoy this and get ready for a multitude of awesomeness.
